Enjoy our wellbeing tips for seniors that you can apply to get feeling your absolute best all the time now that the nights are closing in. We hope you’ll get lots of benefit from them.

Make R&R your mission

Do you love a good nap in front of the telly? If so, you’re in good company. Resting and doing something you enjoy that relaxes you is essential for your wellbeing. Perhaps you’re catching up on the latest murder series (or even some nostalgic re-runs) or you’re indulging in a gripping paperback. Even a bit of gardening can be therapeutic. Whatever it is, getting enough time to do not very much is a great way to boost your wellbeing.

If you are always on the go, attending meetings or working on a project, you can become depleted, opening you up to potential for catching viruses or getting generally unwell.

Get Moving

Exercise has been known to boost your immune system, as it increases circulation – fantastic for promoting healthy cells – which is why it’s great to get out for a walk. Being outside in the fresh air opens up your airways, too, which helps you get rid of bacteria. But even if your mobility is impaired, even managing just a few steps more than your usual can pay dividends.
We have some exercise tips in this blog post if you want to keep moving indoors.

Consume the best foods

Eating well has so many benefits. Food creates the building blocks for your own cells, so a good source material is essential. Think of those shiny eyes and strong bones and nails! And eating the correct substances can facilitate your digestion.

A balanced diet should contain fruit and veg, as everyone knows from school days, but also consider including nuts, grains like quinoa and bulgar wheat, and also your protein. This can be found in meat and fish, but you could also have chickpeas, hummous and tofu if you fancy an alternative.

Avoid the high fat, high salt snacky foods like crips and biscuits, or keep them for a special treat.

Top up your water levels

It’s all about that hydration! While tea and coffee can be included in your liquid intake, it’s best to keep it to around four cups a day of caffeinated drinks, and keep topping up your water.

Drinking enough water can perk up your mood, rid your body of toxins, reduce pain and stifle hunger cravings.

Keep your home neat and tidy

We’re not about to judge you for your housekeeping habits, but having a tidy, picturesque space is not only pleasant on the eye, but also keeps stress down to a minimum. On a practical level, having a place for everything means you don’t lose items so easily (think keys and glasses while you’re on your way out!) and that reduces the likelihood of an argument or missing an appointment. You’ll also be able to sleep better in a decluttered room and cleaning won’t take nearly as long.

Prioritise your happiness

If you’ve spent most of your adult life looking after everyone else, it’s time to do put your wellbeing first. This can be investing in a hobby that you love and dedicating some time to it daily, or indulging in a prized collection. It could even be listening to some music that brings back great memories and singing along.
Whatever it is, make time for it and enjoy it!
